I was very reluctant about Encounter Weight Loss as I was worried that I would fail to lose weight ... again. I have been overweight since I was a kid, and had a hard time losing weight and keeping it off. I had developed type 2 diabetes in my 40s. In my 50s I had become quite ill with all the complications of diabetes: uncontrolled blood sugar, high blood pressure, lots of inflammation, which made it painful to move around. I heard that Wendy Peter was running a focus group for Encounter Weight Loss, so I joined. I learned how to eat real food, and making sure I had proper nutrition made me feel so much healthier. I began to understand the issues around food that caused me to emotionally eat, and learning new skills to deal with these issues was something I had never experienced in any other weight loss program before. The encouragement to keep on the journey and not look at slip ups as failure made it so much easier to stick with the changes. Weight started coming off, my blood pressure came down, my blood sugar came back to normal, the inflammation in my body started to heal, and the pain went away.
